I was born in Toledo, Ohio, on May 23, 1949. I have one sister. Her name is Karen, age 59, and she lives in Xenia, Ohio, with her husband. They have two adult children. My parents passed away from various forms of cancer in 1987 and 1997. I am divorced with no children.
As a child, I had many friends and played sports and drums in the high school marching, pep, and concert bands. I was a Cub and Boy Scout for many years. I enjoyed playing tennis, football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, put-put, bowling, and other sports. While at Clay High School, Located in Oregon, Ohio, I lettered in baseball and music.
During my first 12 years in school I did very poorly. My only goal was to play baseball for the New York Yankees. I refused to study, do homework, etc. In fact, my parents and I didn’t know if I was going to graduate from high school until the final week of school. In high school, I used to forge teacher’s passes and go drinking with the boys. I finally did graduate on time with a D- (1.25 GPA). I am very ashamed of myself for failing in school. I knew I could have done so much better but failed to apply myself appropriately. There is no excuse for my childish behavior.
After completing my high school education, I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, in 1968. This is where I had to grow up fast because the military was not going to put up with my crap. I knew I did not want to be dismissed from the service, so I applied myself and had a very successful career.
My military employment included being a military officer, administrator, and a paralegal. While in the military I served over seas in Thailand, England, and in Germany. I am a highly decorated airman. I received an honorable discharge. I thoroughly enjoyed the military and its way of life. After leaving the military I held various law enforcement and security positions locally and in Columbus, Ohio. For example; I was a Special Duty Columbus Police Officer, detective at Wright Patterson AFB, and was employed by an armored car company as a driver and a messenger.
In 1988, I started my college education at Sinclair Community College. I graduated with HONORS, with four college degrees. They are in Police Science, Industrial and Retail Security, Institutional corrections, and in Community-Based Corrections. My current GPA is 3.9. I am currently a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and have been named to the Sinclair Community College Dean’s List repeatedly and eight straight years in a row to the National Dean’s List.
After leaving Sinclair, I attended the University of Cincinnati. Later, due to my disability, I went on-line to Belford University and earned my Bachelors , Master of Arts, and Doctor of Arts in Criminal Justice, Criminal Law, and Criminology, respectively. All degrees were earned with SUMMA CUM LAUDE credentials.
I am currently a teaching assistant at Sinclair Community college in the Areas of political science and criminal justice. I lecture on military law, federal and state judiciary, and the American death penalty. Also, I hold weekly classroom reviews on previous political science lecture materials presented by Professor Michael A. Sprague. Finally, I assist the students with writing a critically thinking paper about federal, state, and local government issues. For the past four years I have served in this capacity.
Finally, I am a Sinclair Community College Staff Member and Tour. I tutor all criminal justice students and others with reading, writing and math problems. For the past five years? I have served in this capacity.
