Everyone Has A Story- Salina Prether

Hello my name is Salina Prether- Williams. I am the ninth child of eleven children. I have two wonderful children, a beautiful granddaughter, and one on the way.

I was born in a little town called Latham, Ohio, just south of Chillicothe. My family lived in a two bedroom house without any inside plumbing. I moved to Xenia, Ohio when I was nine years old and believe me; it was like moving to a whole other world. I probably flushed the toilet fifty times amazed at where the water was going…until my mother informed me that water cost money in the city! Life has always been kind of a struggle. I buried my nephew (who was more like a son) on September 10th, 2001. I cared for my father before he passed away and went to heaven.

I work at Trinity Community of Beavercreek for the last fourteen years. I have worked in health care for the last twenty years. I am currently an activities assistant and a STNA. I love my job, as far as I am concerned, I have the best job anyone could have!

One day in August of last year, my granddaughter and I were walking down Main St. in Xenia, reading signs as she was learning how to read. She would spell out the signs and I would tell her what they said. Then we came across a sign that read, “Lighthouse Baptist Church at the Holiday Inn. It was a Wednesday night and she said, “It’s a church, Nana, can we go?” So we went. That was the beginning of a whole new life. I got down on my knees that night and I prayed for God to deliver my family and myself from all the trials and tribulations that we have suffered for so long. Not long after that we found Fox Hunt Apartments.

We moved into our new home only three days after we applied. We moved in September of last year, we have grown to know a lot of people here and it feels like home already. Although I still attend Lighthouse Baptist Church of Xenia, I hope that God finds it reasonable for my family to stay in Kettering. I have not met one rude person since I have lived here. It is a beautiful place to live. The scenery to and from work is surreal. The school systems are wonderful and full of teachers that really care and love their job. I couldn’t think of a better place to live. Believe me; I have lived in a lot of towns in my years, in Ohio and in Florida.

I love creative writing, reading, and writing poetry. I am a very family oriented person. I mean I do come a family of eleven children. My family is like no other I have encountered. My sisters and brothers are close. We get together once a month and have a weekend of catching up. Our children are just as close. There was not a time that one of us has not lived with the other. The great grandchildren are close as well. We get together as much as we can to celebrate our family. For such a big family, we have had only two major losses. We have a big family; there are eleven
children, twenty- seven grandchildren, and thirty- four great grandchildren (with more on the way!) I believe that we have been so blessed because my father and mother believed in the Lord and bestowed that upon us as we did our children. We have been blessed, not with materialistic items, but with each other and having the Lord in our hearts.

Everyone Has A Story- Dale and Deborah

In 1968 Dale and I met. My Dad owned a restaurant and Dale came in with his nephew. He asked me out and we began dating. We dated for two years and he asked me to marry him. I said yes, of course we got married on June 27, 1970.

We have been asked many times what is the secret to a long and happy marriage?? It’s simple. We love each other very much and we meant our marriage vows: for better or worse in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer. We have experienced these things through different times in our lives, but we also have to communicate and compromise. Always respect each other and the fact that you are two different people with different views. We talk about things we have to deal with and listen to each others opinions and think about each others feelings. We are very compassionate about that and enjoy each others company. We feel very blessed and happy to have found each other.

When my Dad got sick and we lost him to bone cancer, Dale was my rock. He is ‘ the wind beneath my sails.” He has suffered loss as well. He lost his Dad to cancer when we had only been married 11 months, he lost his mom when she was only 67, she had a stroke. Last year, he lost his only brother to heart failure.

We have had the sadness of not being able to have children, which was hard because we both love children very much, and we have experienced job loss quite a few times when we were both still working. We both had to give up working young, due to health reasons. These things have made us stringer and more appreciative of each other. Even though we could not have children, we have lots of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews which we love very much. ( and there are lots of them!!!)

The main key for us is to laugh, laugh, laugh and never lose sight of what is important in life. This year we will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary on June 27. We are looking forward to many more years together, God willing , and with his blessing. When life deals you a cruel blow, we just face it head on and say our love can survive anything.

We truly wish everyone a wonderful life with much success.

God Bless,
Dale and Deborah

Inspiration For a Better Tomorrow- JoHannah Kautz

Inspiration for a Better Tomorrow…

April is amazing for its “beauty in bloom,” but do know what is also known for?April Fools Day!!! Thanks to Aprilfoolszone.com here’s a little help all of my pranksters out there—keep the laughs going!!

Do the Splits- Find a scrap of cloth. Place a dollar on the floor and stay nearby. When the victim comes by and bends down to pick up the dollar, rip the cloth loudly. Most people will reach back to see if they ripped their pants.

Forgetful- Tape magnets to the bottom of an empty coffee cup, and attach it to the top of your car. Laugh at all the people who frantically try to get your attention as you drive by.

Big Winner- Some of the best April Fool's pranks take a bit of pre-planning. Buy a lottery ticket and give it to the victim on March 31. The next day go out early and buy another ticket with the exact same numbers as the WINNING numbers from the day before. Put this ticket in the place of the ticket from the day before. Wait for them to check the numbers in the paper. They probably won’t notice the different date, and will think they just became a millionaire!

Early Bird- Set the victim’s alarm clock for the middle of the night and hide it somewhere in the room where they will have to get up and scramble around to turn it off. (This works even better if you sneak in after they go to sleep and unscrew the light bulb in their lamp. Then they’ll have to search for the clock in the dark!)

Mouse Trap- Take a Post-It note and place it over the eye of the victim’s optical mouse. When the victim tries to use his or her computer, the cursor won’t move. Be sure to write “April Fools!” on the note! (Note if they have a standard mouse, you can perform the same trick by taping a piece of paper over the ball underneath the mouse.)
