Hello my name is Salina Prether- Williams. I am the ninth child of eleven children. I have two wonderful children, a beautiful granddaughter, and one on the way.
I was born in a little town called Latham, Ohio, just south of Chillicothe. My family lived in a two bedroom house without any inside plumbing. I moved to Xenia, Ohio when I was nine years old and believe me; it was like moving to a whole other world. I probably flushed the toilet fifty times amazed at where the water was going…until my mother informed me that water cost money in the city! Life has always been kind of a struggle. I buried my nephew (who was more like a son) on September 10th, 2001. I cared for my father before he passed away and went to heaven.
I work at Trinity Community of Beavercreek for the last fourteen years. I have worked in health care for the last twenty years. I am currently an activities assistant and a STNA. I love my job, as far as I am concerned, I have the best job anyone could have!
One day in August of last year, my granddaughter and I were walking down Main St. in Xenia, reading signs as she was learning how to read. She would spell out the signs and I would tell her what they said. Then we came across a sign that read, “Lighthouse Baptist Church at the Holiday Inn. It was a Wednesday night and she said, “It’s a church, Nana, can we go?” So we went. That was the beginning of a whole new life. I got down on my knees that night and I prayed for God to deliver my family and myself from all the trials and tribulations that we have suffered for so long. Not long after that we found Fox Hunt Apartments.
We moved into our new home only three days after we applied. We moved in September of last year, we have grown to know a lot of people here and it feels like home already. Although I still attend Lighthouse Baptist Church of Xenia, I hope that God finds it reasonable for my family to stay in Kettering. I have not met one rude person since I have lived here. It is a beautiful place to live. The scenery to and from work is surreal. The school systems are wonderful and full of teachers that really care and love their job. I couldn’t think of a better place to live. Believe me; I have lived in a lot of towns in my years, in Ohio and in Florida.
I love creative writing, reading, and writing poetry. I am a very family oriented person. I mean I do come a family of eleven children. My family is like no other I have encountered. My sisters and brothers are close. We get together once a month and have a weekend of catching up. Our children are just as close. There was not a time that one of us has not lived with the other. The great grandchildren are close as well. We get together as much as we can to celebrate our family. For such a big family, we have had only two major losses. We have a big family; there are eleven
children, twenty- seven grandchildren, and thirty- four great grandchildren (with more on the way!) I believe that we have been so blessed because my father and mother believed in the Lord and bestowed that upon us as we did our children. We have been blessed, not with materialistic items, but with each other and having the Lord in our hearts.
