Everyone Has A Story- Dale and Deborah

In 1968 Dale and I met. My Dad owned a restaurant and Dale came in with his nephew. He asked me out and we began dating. We dated for two years and he asked me to marry him. I said yes, of course we got married on June 27, 1970.

We have been asked many times what is the secret to a long and happy marriage?? It’s simple. We love each other very much and we meant our marriage vows: for better or worse in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer. We have experienced these things through different times in our lives, but we also have to communicate and compromise. Always respect each other and the fact that you are two different people with different views. We talk about things we have to deal with and listen to each others opinions and think about each others feelings. We are very compassionate about that and enjoy each others company. We feel very blessed and happy to have found each other.

When my Dad got sick and we lost him to bone cancer, Dale was my rock. He is ‘ the wind beneath my sails.” He has suffered loss as well. He lost his Dad to cancer when we had only been married 11 months, he lost his mom when she was only 67, she had a stroke. Last year, he lost his only brother to heart failure.

We have had the sadness of not being able to have children, which was hard because we both love children very much, and we have experienced job loss quite a few times when we were both still working. We both had to give up working young, due to health reasons. These things have made us stringer and more appreciative of each other. Even though we could not have children, we have lots of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews which we love very much. ( and there are lots of them!!!)

The main key for us is to laugh, laugh, laugh and never lose sight of what is important in life. This year we will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary on June 27. We are looking forward to many more years together, God willing , and with his blessing. When life deals you a cruel blow, we just face it head on and say our love can survive anything.

We truly wish everyone a wonderful life with much success.

God Bless,
Dale and Deborah
